Here I am

I am so very tired of Christmas music. And this is not a gratuitous Christmas-is-about-Jesus post! This is a genuine, I am so very sick of Christmas music and the reasons happen to include Jesus!
Through the years
We all will be together,
If the fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

If the fates allow? FATES?? What the hell does that even mean? In a CHRISTMAS song?

I was speaking to a girl at work who hates Christmas music too and she mentioned that there are never any songs for Easter - to which I then sung her a couple of church songs about Easter. Christ the Lord is Risen Today and There is a Green Hill Far Away. What terrific songs!

Today at work wasn't so very busy. Busy, but certainly not half as busy at this time last year! Methinks people are a bit afraid for their monies. But despite the not-so-busy-ness of work, I was sore and achy all day. My feet, legs, back, strange pain just under my ribs that I called Mum about because it made me nervous but turned out to be nothing because it went away a bit later. I had plenty of sleep last night but woke up tired still. But I managed to get through the day! Hurrah! That was my goal. I also stayed in good spirits for most of it.

Been praying a lot more than usual recently. This is a good thing. It harks back to my old desire from back in the day of wanting to be a prayer warrior. Maybe there is still hope for that desire to bear fruit. :) :P

Totally agreed!

Something that bugged me the other day: I heard an OLD version of "Here Comes Santa Claus" the other day, and did you know that the full version mentions God TWICE? Why does that bug me? "Santa knows we're all God's children" and "So let's give thanks to the Lord above that Santa Claus is coming tonight" are the lines. Singing about SANTA's omnipotence (which is in the song a lot, but which only God has) and lying to your kids and asking them to thank God for your lie (Santa isn't really coming tonight) just seems wrong to me.

On another note, if you haven't heard it, there's this awesome country song called "Jesus Gets Jealous of Santa Claus" that is REALLY cute.

I prefer Christmas songs which have the true meaning: JESUS. Do you know "It's about the cross" by Go fish? Search in YouTube. Because Christmas is truly about the cross. :)

I'm glad you've been praying a lot :) Remember, when you pray, believe you will have what you want, and you will have it. :)

hmmm, can you point me towards some Bible references for that?

So Jesus answered and said to them: "Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' it will be done. And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." Matthew 21: 21,22 NKJV

Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. Mark 11: 24

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Matthew 7: 7,8 NKJV

From Bibleinfo.com:

How willing is God to hear and answer prayer? It's in the Bible, Matthew 7:11, NIV. "If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!"

Under what condition does the psalmist say the Lord will not hear prayer? It's in the Bible, Psalm 66:18-19, NIV. "If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer."

In whose name are we to pray? It's in the Bible, John 14:13-14, TLB. "You can ask for anything, using My name, and I will do it, for this will bring praise to the Father because of what I, the Son, will do for you. Yes, ask anything, using My name, and I will do it."

How do I know what to pray about? It's in the Bible, Romans 8:26-27, TLB. "And in the same way—by our faith—the Holy Spirit helps us with our daily problems and in our praying. For we don't even know what we should pray for, nor how to pray as we should; but the Holy Spirit prays for us with such feeling that it cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows, of course, what the Spirit is saying as He pleads for us in harmony with God's own will."

I hope this helps :)

Mmm sorry are you asking bible references for Christmas? O.o Maybe I answered the wrong question.

I went to a Christian concert once where one of the singers sang that song and prefaced it with this story...she wanted to change the lyric to "if the Lord allows", and was told she couldn't because of copyright infringement or something...so she contacted the guy who wrote it for permission and he told her that actually, the lyric had been changed to remove religious concepts for popular culture, and the way she wanted to sing it was how he had originally wrote it anyway.

No idea if her story was true or not...though I would hope the nice Christian singer at the Christian concert would not lie...but it is an interesting story, at the least.

Christmas music makes me grumpy...and then that makes me feel sort of guilty so I try to just ignore it and be happy. Hopefully I succeed and don't annoy people w/it.
