Writer's Block: 9/11

What were you doing on September 11th, 2001? How do the events of that day hold meaning for you now?

I wrote a diary entry for that time. I kept one since the beginning of that year that have continued to keep a diary since. Even though I have 4 blogs (Livejournal, Blogspot, InsaneJournal and Myspace) I still keep a pen and paper diary. This is my entry from 12th of September 2001:
Dear Diary,
Well you'll never guess, not in a million years. America was under attack, terrorist action destroyed the 2 international trade centres in Manhattan and a couple of surrounding buildings, and a part of the pentagon. Everyone at school was talking about it. You see, these guys hijacked 3 or so planes and went into kamikaze missile action in these buildings. The USA has declared war upon the people who did this, but that's just it, they don't know who did it. Clueless, the lot of them.
On to more trivial things...

I also remember thinking how dumb the pilots were for hitting the towers. I mean, it's not as if it's hard to miss. Mum and Dad were up watching the news on TV that morning when I woke up. That was really unusual because I had to leave the house before both of them as I had a fair distance to travel to get to school. The whole day was rather surreal and the entire time everyone was like "we need more information! What's going on!?"

I also remember a couple of years later in '03, there were a few of us talking about how our troops would be sent into these Arabic countries for peace keeping/war reasons (I can't remember it too well) and we were a bit scared that Australia would be in a war.

But now... I don't think they hold much meaning for me, except that for a time the Australian dollar was really strong against the US dollar, and fuel prices have risen stupidly high.
